The purpose of the Public Arts Commission is to reflect the diverse nature of the City's population, history, and growth through the public display of art; cultivate audiences for public art; consider ways in which public art can play a role in achieving other community building goals and objectives; foster sponsorship and stewardship of public art; recognition of the economic benefits gained through aesthetic enhancement of the City's public spaces; and expand the opportunities for residents to experience public art. There are seven members appointed by the Mayor with the confirmation of the City Council, including: a) one member at-large, who is a resident of Vista; b) two artists, who are residents of Vista; and c) one member from each of the following organizations: Vista Unified School District, Vista Village Business Association, Alta Vista Gardens, and Friends of the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe; as well as two non-voting youth representatives. The term of office is three years.
Qualifications for membership:
- Resident of the City of Vista
- 18 years of age
- Refer to the Vista Municipal Code Chapter 2.46 for additional eligibility requirements.
