California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on April 15, new initiatives to support workers who have lost jobs or wages as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Beginning April 20, the CA Employment Department Call Center will be open 7 days a week from 8 am-8 pm.
- 1,300+ state employees have been reassigned to assist people with their unemployment claims.
- Starting April 28, EDD will have a one-stop shop to file for Unemployment Insurance & the new federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), where benefits will be issued in 24-48 hours.
