The area, known as Paseo Santa Fe, encompasses the S. Santa Fe Avenue corridor between Vista Village Drive and Civic Center Drive. The City's vision is to fill the area with retail/shops/restaurants topped with living spaces to revitalize the downtown area.
PROJECT (.75 miles includes Phases I,II, and III)
Phase I (.25 miles): Completed The project began in May, 2014 and the first phase was completed in early April, 2016. This portion extends from Main Street to Ocean View Drive. Along this stretch of corridor, S. Santa Fe Avenue was reconfigured from four lanes into two lanes and all overhead utilities were placed underground and storm drain improvements were added. New, wide sidewalks were constructed, new energy efficient street lamps were installed, and drought-resistant landscaping was added. The City's first roundabout was constructed at Eucalyptus and S. Santa Fe Avenues, creating a three-way intersection.
Phase II (.20 miles): Begins End Nov, 2017. Extends Phase 1 from Ocean View Drive to Terrace Drive. This includes constructing street improvements similar to Phase 1 and adding a roundabout at Guajome and Terrace drives. Construction will begin in end of November, 2017 with the upgrading of sewer and water pipes and adding storm drain improvements as well as placing the overhead power and cable lines underground from Ocean View to Civic Center Drive.
Phase III (.30 miles): Extends from Terrace Drive to Civic Center Drive. This includes constructing physical improvements and a roundabout at Pala Vista Drive. This phase of the project has been designed; but the construction is currently unfunded. The undergrounding of utilities in Phase II will be continued up to Civic Center Drive.
