Vista Civic Center Groundbreaking Celebration
Date: Tuesday, August 26, 2008
Time: 2:30 p.m.
Location: Civic Center Construction Site
600 Eucalyptus Avenue, Vista
"This is an exciting time for the Vista community. The new Civic Center will be a state of the art facility and will replace the outdated buildings not currently capable of meeting the needs of Vista, now and in the future,” said City of Vista Mayor, Morris Vance. “Upon completion, the new Civic Center will be a tremendous asset to the community, and will enhance the image and value of our downtown area, and become a landmark that will make all residents proud to call Vista their home.”
The new civic center will utilize many energy-saving techniques throughout and the city expects the building will earn a basic level of certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System (LEED). LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
The design of the facilities is being led by the architecture firm, Carrier Johnson. Highland Partnership, Inc. is the builder for the project. The projected completion date is slated for July, 2010.
Funding for the new civic center was made possible through increased revenue provided by Proposition L, a half-cent sales tax increase approved by Vista voters in November, 2006. In addition to the civic center construction project, other community projects supported by the voters include the seismic retrofit and renovation of Fire Station No. 1, construction of two new fire stations, a new sports park, and renovation of the stage house for the Moonlight Amphitheatre. Information on each project is available on the City’s website, www.cityofvista.com,; under “Community Projects.”
