Vista, California
The City of Vista is situated approximately 7 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean in northern San Diego County. Vista is the "Hub of the North County" area. With a population of approximately 94,048, it is a semi-rural, residential community. Vista's Mediterranean climate provides mild winters and cool summers for year-round outdoor activities. Vista incorporated in 1963 as a general law city and operates under the Council/Manager form of government with a current General Fund Operating budget of approximately $41 million. The incorporated city limits contain approximately 19 square miles. Presently there are 14 elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools, a continuation high school, a high school for the handicapped, an independent high school, and an adult education school. The city is served by two nearby community colleges and one four-year university. There are several neighborhood shopping centers with a regional shopping center located 7 miles away. Tri-City Medical Center is located adjacent to the city's western limits. The city maintains its own Fire Department, while law enforcement is furnished by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The city has 329 regular employees.
