Household Hazardous Waste

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility located at 1145 E. Taylor Street (across the street from the Public Works Yard) is open to accept residents' drop-offs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. SATURDAYS ONLY during the year except the holiday weekends. No appointment is necessary. There is no direct fee to the residents of Vista. Proof of residency is required.

Residents may drop off used oil, oil filters, antifreeze, auto batteries, paint, pesticides, and other household hazardous waste by merely "driving through; Clean Harbors will offload your car." Some small quantity generators may be permitted by special arangement; however, no contractors or commercial loads are allowed. In addition to collecting household hazardous waste, the Vista collection site, as well as the HHW collection site in Poway, now accept electronic waste ("e-waste") such as computers, television, toaster ovens, etc.

Free door-to-door collection services are available to citizens 65 or older, or households possessing a registered handicap placard. Please contact Clean Harbors at (800) 444-4244 to schedule an appointment.

EFFECTIVE 02/01/04, RESIDENTS OF THE UNINCORPORATED AREAS MAY NOT USE THE VISTA OR POWAY HHW FACILITIES. THESE RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE THE RAMONA HHW FACILITY LOCATED AT 324 MAPLE STREET. THE RAMONA FACILITY WILL BE OPEN EVERY OTHER SATURDAY FROM 9:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL 877/713-2784.

Accepted Items:

• Household Cleaners such as drain openers, oven cleaners, wood and metal polish / cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, disinfectants.
• Automotive Products such as oil and fuel additives, grease and rust solvents, carburetor and fuel injector cleaners, air conditioning refrigerants, starter fluid, lubricating fluids, radiator fluids and additives, waxes, polishes, cleaners, transmission additives.
• Home Maintenance and Improvement Products such as paint thinners, paint strippers, adhesives, paints, stains, varnishes, sealants, and wood preservatives.
• Lawn and Garden Products such as Pesticides, Herbicides, and Fungicides (Poisons).
• Miscellaneous Products such as batteries, fingernail polish removers, pool and photo chemicals.

From State Route 78, exit Escondido Avenue, go north. Turn right on East Vista Way. Turn right on Arcadia. Turn left on Laguna Lane. Follow Laguna Lane to East Taylor Street, turn left onto East Taylor Street. Facility (and the entrance) are on the left.
