Philosophy

Young Boys

Each camp has its own method of constructing programs based on its philosophy. Knowing your child's personality and style of learning is valuable in selecting the right camp. The City of Vista Day Camp Program is committed to simple yet comprehensive philosophy focused on your campers wellbeing.

  • Be Safe
  • Build Positive Relationships
  • Make It Fun

This philosophy is the basis in which our camp program operates, counselors are trained, and activities are developed. Should you have any questions about this or any other aspect of the program, please feel free to contact us.

City of Vista Day Camp Registration Forms are now available from the office or in the downloadable forms section below. If you wish to receive a registration form in advance by mail, simply call the Day Camp Program Office at (760) 726-1340 ext 1501.

Payments

Payment for the first week of camp is due in full, which includes a $10 non-refundable deposit. Subsequent weeks of camp may be held with a $10 non-refundable deposit per child, per week. Payment is due in full 7 days prior to the first day of camp. Scholarships -- NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME

Unfortunately due to lack of funding, the scholarship account is depleted at this time and is not available for distribution. If and when there is money in the account this information will be updated.

Alternative Payment Programs

If your child receives payment assistance from an alternative funding source to participate in camp you are still required to register in advance to reserve their spot in camp. Please contact the City of Vista Day Camp Program to verify eligibility for participation.

Credits, Refunds & Cancellations

Prior to the start of the final day of camp, participants may request a refund or credit. The amount of the refund/credit will be the camp fee paid less the daily rate, based on the number of days elapsed, regardless of attendance, and the processing fee for refunds. Day Camp refunds/credits are based on a daily rate and are not prorated. All refunds are assessed a processing fee of 25% of the camp registration fee. All credits expire on July 1, immediately after the issue date of credit. All refunds are non-cash and will be processed within four weeks after request. If a request for refund/credit is for a one time event, the refund/credit request must be made prior to the start of the event. If you are unable to attend a class/activity after you have registered, you may request a refund or credit by contacting (760) 726-1340 ext. 1501.

These procedures have been implemented due to advance payments we make to our vendors in the purchase of entry tickets, transportation usage, supplies and hiring of staff.

Day Camp Staff

Beyond location, activities and marketing materials, the most important aspect of any camp program are the counselors. You must feel comfortable with their ability to supervise and care for your child. Always ask questions and continue to do so until your curiosity is satisfied. A parent’s intuition is a valuable asset.

The City of Vista Day Camp Program encourages questions about the program, activities, and staff. We are proud of the young adults we hire to conduct our camp activities. Throughout the hiring process, we are evaluating our needs and the specific skills of each candidate. Each potential staff member is required to submit to a drug screen and extensive background check. Most of our staff are 18 years old, however, 16 year olds maybe hired after completing two years of the CIT Program, not to exceed two staff per year. Just as any employer, we look for certain qualities in potential candidates including previous experience with children, adaptability, an outgoing and fun attitude, dependability, and trustworthiness. Upon hiring, all counselors undergo a week of training prior to the start of camp. We concentrate on areas of teamwork, supervision/emergency procedures, behavior modification techniques, and leadership skills.

Most of our staff consists of college students with intended majors in the education, recreation, and child development fields. We are pleased to have higher than a 50% return ratio in staff year after year.
