Q. I need directions. How do I get to the Senior Center?
A. The center is located at 1400 Vale Terrace Drive in Vista. Take Interstate 78 to Escondido Avenue and turn north on Escondido Avenue. Follow Escondido Avenue to East Vista Way. Turn right (east) on East Vista Way. Go right on Vale Terrace Drive – the center is located at the 2nd entrance into Brengle Terrace Park.
Q. What are the eligibility requirements for the senior lunch program? How much does it cost, and how do I make reservations?
A. The lunch program is available for senior citizens 60 years and older. Call 724-3362 the day before or the morning that you would like to come in for lunch. There is a suggested contribution of $3.50 for lunch. No eligible person shall be denied a meal because of failure or inability to contribute. For those younger than 60, there will be a $6.00 charge for lunch.
Q. I need home-delivered meals? What are the requirements?
A. Home-delivered meals are provided for Vista seniors 60 years and older home-bound due to an illness or disability. There is a suggested contribution of $4.00 for home-delivered meals. No eligible person shall be denied a meal because of failure or inability to contribute. Call (760) 639-6162 for more information.
Q. I need transportation? What do you have available?
A. Our Out & About transportation provides daily shuttle service and mileage reimbursement for volunteer drivers. Call them at 639-6161 for details. We also provide transportation for Vista seniors attending the lunch program.
Q. What kind of senior housing is available in Vista?
A. Call the City of Vista’s Housing department at 726-1340, x1104.
Q. What kinds of classes and activities do you have for seniors?
A. Call the center at 639-6160 or stop by the center between 8am-4pm Monday – Friday and pick up a Vista Senior Voice newsletter and take a tour.
Q. Can you help me with selecting an HMO? Also can you help with me understand my Medicare bills?
A. HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program), a free service provided by the County of
San Diego is available to help you with medical bills, health insurance questions, and HMO assistance. Call 1-800-434-0222 to make an appointment.
Q. Do you provide legal assistance for seniors?
A. A free legal service provided by the County of San Diego Elder Law & Advocacy is available to area seniors. Clients must call their office directly at 439-2535 to schedule an appointment to see the attorney at the center.
Q. Do you offer day trips?
A. We offer day and multi-day trips through our Culture Caravan program. Call 643-2828 to receive a brochure or visit them at the center. Hours: 9am-3pm.
Q. Do you have computer classes for seniors?
A. Learn the basics, how to use the computer, use e-mail, and the internet in our Cyber Seniors Computer Lab. The classes are geared just for seniors, workbooks are included. Call 639-6160 for more information and to register for classes.
Q. Do you offer AARP’s 55-Alive Mature Drivers Course?
A. Yes, classes are held January, March, May, July, September, and November. Participation in this defensive driving class qualifies for discounts on auto insurance. Call 639-6160 to register.
Q. Do you have income tax assistance?
A. The center offers free income tax assistance sponsored by AARP every year February through April 15th. Assistance is offered by appointments or walk-in. Call 639-6160 for information.
Q. Do you provide flu shots for seniors?
A. The center provides shots each year during flu season. Dates and times are not available until October; call 639-6160.
Q. I want to rent space at the center for a wedding reception, dance, party, etc. What do I need to do?
A. Call 726-1340, x1575 for rental information for Friday-Sunday, Park Terrace Café rentals. Call 726-1340, x1532 for all other senior center rentals.
