Mural-in-a-day: August 7, 2010 & July 16, 2011
Thank you to all of the volunteers who participated in the Mural-In-A-Day events in 2010 and 2011!
In 2010 and 2011 volunteers painted in large sketches, created by renowned artist Art Mortimer on the side of the sheriff's substation at Luz Duran Park and on the URBAN Pizza Restaurant outside wall on Main Street. The City and the Public Arts commission chose the locations to eliminate a potential wall for graffiti.
Renowned artist Art Mortimer, was selected by the Public Arts Commission to design the murals. The mural design on the sheriff's substation painted by volunteers on August 7, 2010 depicts children playing soccer, basketball, football, baseball and running track. Volunteers painted the second mural on July 16, 2011 in the downtown area, which illustrates avocado crate labels that Vista avocado growers used in the 1940's depicting Vista as the “Avocado Capital of the World”.
