Prop L Sales Tax Oversight Committee

Proposition L was passed in November 2006 by Vista voters. The measure is a half-cent sales tax increase that went into effect on April 1, 2007. Vista's sales tax increase is now 9.25 percent. Prop L is estimated to generate $5 million annually for the City.

What is Taxable

  • Goods delivered to addresses within the city boundaries. This applies to goods purchased from vendors outside of the city who deliver, install or assemble merchandise within the city limits.
  • Automobiles purchased or leased by Vista residents (no matter which city the automobile is purchased or leased).

Projects

Several high-priority community projects are now either completed or underway in Vista due to the approval of Proposition L. The City’s first and foremost priority was building and staffing two new fire stations, one in south Vista and one in central Vista. Fire Station No. 5 and No. 6 are now complete and fully operational as of April, 2009. Moonlight Amphitheatre project is also complete and opened for the summer season in July, 2009. All of these community projects are made possible because of increased revenue provided by Proposition L, a half-cent sales tax increase approved by Vista voters in November 2006.
