City of Vista City Council
Steve Gronke, Council Member
(term expires 2012)
Steve Gronke is the Mayor Pro Tempore for 2012 and has been serving on the City Council since 2000.
Steve Gronke was born in Chicago, Illinois. He obtained his Bachelors of Arts degree in biology and a teaching credential at Long Beach State University. He later received a Masters of Arts degree in Education Administration from San Diego State University.
Mr. Gronke moved to Vista, California where he has been employed by the Vista Unified School District as a middle school and high school teacher and acting administrator. He is presently a teacher on special assignment at North Star Academy, the district’s home education campus.
Mr. Gronke’s political interests go back to his college years when he fought for and saved some open space in his home town of Torrance. After participating in several campaigns for both individuals and initiatives, he decided to run for the Vista City Council with the support of friends and family. He was successful in his bid for the council seat in November of 2000 where he remains to this day.
Mr. Gronke is most proud of many of the improvements Vistans have seen in the past decade including the Vista Village Center, Moonlight Amphitheatre and the construction of the two new fire stations. He represents the City of Vista on the North County Transit Board and Encina Wastewater Authority as well as several non-profit boards.
