Citizen Initiative for Medical Marijuana Certified
The City Council voted unanimously to place the ballot measure on the next General Election scheduled for November, 2018.
A petition entitled "An initiative to Legalize Medical Marijuana Businesses in the City of Vista" was delivered to the County of San Diego Registrar of Voters for verification of signatures on August 9, 2017. The Registrar's Offices uses a random sample process in accordance with the California Election Code.
On September 15, the Registrar of Voters provided a signature verification to the City of Vista. The projected number of signatures (5,596) is sufficient for a regular election. This means, that under the California Elections Code, the City Council can adopt the ordinance within ten days; or place the measure on the next regular election ballot; or order a report to be presented within 30 days at which time the City Council would have ten days to either adopt the ordinance or place the petition on the regular election ballot.
The City Council will discuss the item during a regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 26, at the Vista Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive at 5:30 pm.
